Acupuncture

For more than 2,000 years, the practice of acupuncture has been used to prevent and relieve pain. An excellent complementary treatment for a variety of conditions, acupuncture uses special, individually sterilized and packaged needles. Used in pain management and treatment, it promotes natural healing by tapping directly into the nervous system, creating balance in the body and enhancing everything from digestion to energy level.

Polyhealth Physiotherapy Rehab. offer acupuncture treatments. In line with our commitment to quality, each of our acupuncturists is trained, certified and experienced.

Relieving Pain

Needling acupuncture points in the body stimulates the production of natural steroids and the release of endorphins. Steroids decrease inflammation, while endorphins inhibit pain. When it comes to pain relief, these substances often play an important role throughout the pain elimination process.

Common conditions improved with Acupuncture

Acupuncture is used to treat a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Headaches

  • Neck and shoulder pain

  • Back pain

  • Injuries from slips and falls, sports or motor vehicle accidents

  • Sciatica

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

  • Fibromyalgia

When used in conjunction with other natural or conventional therapies, acupuncture is known to greatly enhance the effects of the treatments provided. Polyhealth Physiotherapy professionals can design integrative, multidisciplinary treatment plans tailored to your individual needs, using a variety of therapies in order to achieve optimal results.

How it Works

Acupuncture needles are very fine, allowing for smooth insertion into the tissue of affected areas without bleeding or damage. There is no drug applied, but rather it is the needles themselves that provide the stimulation necessary to achieve the beneficial results of the treatment. Each acupuncture treatment is tailored to your specific condition and in a typical session, you can expect the needles to be left in place for 15 to 30 minutes.
